THANK YOU, CANADA! McHAPPY DAY HELPS KEEP 30,000 FAMILIES OF SICK CHILDREN CLOSE AT A RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE OR FAMILY ROOM IN CANADA

Families from over 1,800 communities cared for by RMHC programs in Canada each year
TORONTO, May 4, 2017 – Thank you Canada! On Wednesday May 3rd (McHappy Day), McDonald’s restaurants, guests and local communities came together to raise funds in support of the over 30,000 families of sick children cared for by a Ronald McDonald House® or Ronald McDonald Family Room® in Canada each year! On this special day, one dollar from the purchase of every Big Mac® sandwich, Happy Meal® and hot McCafé® beverage sold was donated in support of families.

“We could not be there for our families without the support of McDonald’s guests and local communities on one of the happiest days of the year, McHappy Day!” said Cathy Loblaw, President and CEO of RMHC Canada. “Every dollar raised will help us keep families from over 1,800 communities across Canada, close – close to one another and close to the care their child needs. For families staying at a Ronald McDonald House, this means being able to continue creating treasured memories together through cooking meals with one another, reading cherished tales at story time or being able to give a simple kiss goodnight. Thank you, Canada, for your support on McHappy Day!”

Since McHappy Day was first celebrated in 1977, McDonald's Canada, its franchisees and generous guests, have contributed nearly $56 million for Ronald McDonald Houses and local Canadian children's charities. Today, this special event continues to play a founding and forever role in providing the 15 Ronald McDonald Houses, 16 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and 2 Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles in Canada with funds needed to support families of sick children.

The Ronald McDonald Houses provides a home for out-of-town families to stay at while their child receives treatment at a nearby hospital, while the Ronald McDonald Family Rooms provide both local and out-of-town families with a place to rest and recharge right inside the hospital. The two Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles, mobile health units, bring medical care to underserved communities in Alberta.

Today, the need for support continues to grow with 2,282 families turned away last year due to lack of accommodations, and McDonald’s continues to play a forever and sustaining role as our largest donor partner, alongside a committed and caring group of community and corporate partners, and individual donors.
