NICU Momma and the Tupperware Baby

I had my son prematurely at RUH in Saskatoon and he required NICU time.The night I had to leave my tiny baby alone and check in at The Ronald McDonald House was the hardest time of my life. It was a stormy winter night and when I waked inside of the house I couldn’t believe my eyes. The house was beautiful and I kept wondering how...how they do this for such a small fee?! The staff were so kind and understanding as I sobbed in disbelief that they had breast milk fridges in the rooms and even cooler bags so I could store and transport the milk to my son. Yes I was hormonal at the time but even typing this now I have tears as I remember it all. Although I was alone, as my husband had to go 2.75 hours away to tend to our farm, the feeling of having a place to call home for the weeks I was there, and the families I met while staying are what got me through. I felt safe, understood and loved. When my son was discharged from NICU we stayed a night at RMH and he was nicknamed by the gals in administration as the Tupperware baby as he fit in the fridge containers they have. So sweet! My husband and my parents have decided to make RMHC our charity of choice after my experience there. Please help to continue this amazing house and the programs within.
