Hello! My name is Myles. I want to take a moment to tell you about my niece and how she has inspired us to give back to the people and places that helped her and her family during some very tough times. Violet Fleur Baril was born with a severe heart condition on Sept 22nd of 2018, the beloved daughter of Amanda Hosie and Gavin Baril. For almost three years, Violet and her parents bravely battled her medical complications together in different hospitals including McMaster Children’s Hospital and The Sick Kids Hospital of Toronto. While at Sick Kids, Amanda and Gavin would stay at the Ronald McDonald House in Toronto, just blocks from the hospital. All of Violet’s family were deeply grateful for the hospitality provided to her parents while Violet and her countless doctors, surgeons, and nurses fought for her to get better. An example of the incredible generosity shown to us by people at the Ronald McDonald House was Christmas Eve of 2019. Violet’s parents had been through so much and everyone was just so exhausted that there was no way any of us had the energy to put on a big dinner in our home away from home. Thankfully, there were people kind enough to volunteer their time, when no one would have blamed them for being with their family, to come in and put on a dinner for us. We were treated to a full holiday meal, dessert and even gifts. All of us were just so grateful for this moment. Just some time for all of us to come together as a family and that people would so generously give up some of their most precious time that I doubt any of us will ever forget it. On August 10, 2021 Violet passed away at home due to complications stemming from her heart condition. She will be greatly missed for the rest of our lives. And while all of us wish there is some way she could be with us today, we want to make sure that her legacy continues on. We are starting a non-profit to help raise funds for the hospitals and services that were so crucial in helping Violet and her parents to keep fighting, these include the McMaster Children’s Hospital, The Sick Kids Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House. Our goal for the upcoming year is to be able to raise enough funds to hold our own dinner at the Ronald McDonald House in Violet’s honour. We want to help others feel the relief that we felt that cold December day. We want the people there to know that there are people who are out there thinking about them and who have gone through what they have. It has taken her parents until now to be ready to do such a thing, but the momentum and support we have gained in this short amount of time has been truly inspiring. We call it Project UltraViolet and we want anyone who wants to have a part in what we are doing to have a chance to do so. Our plan is to have Project UltraViolet to be a fully-fledged non-profit organization in the new year. We would also like to host a dinner of our own at the Ronald McDonald House for the folks living there in 2024. Right now, we are working on holding a fundraising event on Sept 24th this year at The Rope Factory in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. Our goal is to hold a fun event where folks can bring their kids. There will be food, crafts, vendors and some music entertainment on hand and we will tell folks what our plans are for Project UltraViolet and how they can help moving forward. We would love to get a big crowd out, so if you can make it out to our BBQ Kickoff on the 24th, we would love to see you out. If you cannot make it, but would still like to help us to get this project off the ground, we would greatly appreciate it if you could contribute to our cause. We will add your name to the list of people who helped us fund this organization and you will be able to watch our progress in the days and years to come knowing you played an important role in making this happen! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and we hope you would like join the Project UltraViolet team! Myles
