Support families with seriously ill Children: RMHC Canada’s COVID-19 Response

Together we are raising $387,000 for RMHC Canada.

Right now it’s hard for all families to stay close - but it’s even harder for families of seriously ill children, especially those who must travel far from home. As Canada’s family care charity, we understand the importance of keeping families close, especially during these difficult times. Our families need you, now more than ever. RMHC across Canada has experienced a 30-70% reduction of funding due to cancellation of fundraising events and volunteer programs as a result of COVID-19. We need your help! We are rallying Canadians together to fundraise $387,000 to help us keep families close. The target amount honours the number of families we’ve helped since 1981, and in support of the families that will continue to need our support now and into the future. As a recognized essential service, we continue to serve existing families at Ronald McDonald Houses across Canada during COVID-19. In support of our hospital partners, we have temporarily repurposed select Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, right inside the hospital, to provide rest and respite for frontline healthcare workers, and the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile is currently being used as a maternity clinic in Calgary. Help us reach our goal. Your donation will have a direct impact on continuing to deliver our Mission of keeping families close to their seriously ill child being treated in hospital through: • Individually packaged non-perishable food • Hot meals for a family • Extra cleaning supplies for advanced cleaning procedures • Gift of Family Nights to help a family stay together at a Ronald McDonald House We believe we are stronger together. And if we can’t be together, we can work together to support families with seriously ill children across your community.

I stayed at RMHC Toronto for 9 months while my daughter fought for her life, she was born 16 weeks early and had multiple complications and setbacks. We spent the first 11 months of her life at the hospital for sick children in Toronto, Ontario. During that time I had family driving me to and from the hospital, a 2+ hour drive, until I made the decision to stay at RMHC. I was completely alone throughout that time but the staff and volunteers always tried their best to make me feel less lonely. If it weren't for RMHC I wouldn't have been able to be at my daughters bedside for 13+ hours a day. I am eternally grateful for the house, staff, and volunteers.

The RMHC in Toronto was a lifesaver for me and my husband when our son was born. We spent 8 months there then and then again 8 years later, last summer we used the RMHC room at London Health Sciences Center. Thank you for all that you do for us families!

This year marks Twenty-nine years that my new born was a cancer patient at Children’s Hospital in London ON. While she received chemotherapy and radiation treatments, I stayed at Ronald McDonald House right beside the hospital. It was so beneficial to be a short walk away while nursing her. We are thankful the RMH was there to support our family then and we appreciate their continued support to children and their families today.
